Brianna Kennedy Affiliated Scholar

Brianna L. Kennedy is Professor of Education and Joint Director of the Centre for Transformative Change in Schools (CenTCS) at the University of Glasgow and Lead for the Teaching-Focused Research Hub of the Scottish Government’s Centre for Teaching Excellence. Her research centres on the marginalization and belonging of students from nondominant social backgrounds with a particular focus on educational and school policy, classroom teaching, connecting teachers and communities, and the reimagining and reworking of education and schooling toward social justice. As a former teacher of early adolescents from Los Angeles, California, she prioritizes the bridging of theory, research, and practice, and has additional lines of research in qualitative inquiry and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Prior to her current appointment at the University of Glasgow, she served on the faculties of the University of Florida in the United States and Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She has coordinated pre-service teacher education and professional development programs, and established school-level research-practice partnerships internationally. Professor Kennedy is the author of numerous research publications in academic journals such as Teachers College Record, Review of Educational Research, and Teaching and Teacher Education as well as the practice-focused book Frame Shifting for Teachers: Developing a Conscious Approach to Solving Persistent Teaching Dilemmas. She serves on the editorial boards of Urban Education and the British Educational Research Journal and is co-convener of Network 15 of the European Educational Research Association, Research on Partnerships in Education.
