Dr. Jerell Hill serves as Dean of Counseling and Guided Pathways at Los Angeles City College, where he brings over 26 years of educational experience to his leadership role. A passionate advocate for educational justice and equity, Dr. Hill combines scholarly expertise with extensive practical experience to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in education.
His academic research centers on teacher preparation, research-practice partnerships, and academic achievement, with additional focus areas including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), student motivation, educational administration, special education, and urban education. Dr. Hill has contributed to academic literature through peer-reviewed articles and book chapters examining educational equity and access for underrepresented student populations.
Dr. Hill’s career reflects his commitment to hands-on educational leadership. Beginning as a classroom teacher working with diverse populations in special education, middle school, and high school settings, he progressed through roles as Principal, District Administrator, and Assistant Superintendent before transitioning to higher education.
A respected voice in education, Dr. Hill is a sought-after keynote speaker and serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena. He maintains active engagement with the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the California Association of African-American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA), and the Council of Exceptional Children (CEC).
