About the Project
How can we improve success for marginalized students across California over the next five years?
CTS is partnering with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the Sonoma County Office of Education and Kings County Office of Education on a statewide 5-year effort named Genuine Empathy Nurturing Intellect for Underserved Students (GENIUS). GENIUS aims to create more equitable outcomes and learning environments for Black youth and historically underserved students using the Supporting the African American Learner state roadmap as a guide for the work. 30 school sites across the state will be selected to participate in a network to implement culturally responsive practices, strategies to improve student learning and school climate, which includes anti-racist strategies. Drawing on previous initiatives including our Beyond the Schoolhouse and school mobility research, the CA Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) pilot implementation program, and most recently, the Race, Education, and Community Healing (REACH) Network, CTS will provide technical assistance and strategic guidance, evidence-based tools and resources for GENIUS schools.
