Note on Homeless Data

The district homeless student data presented were collected from DataQuest, the California Department of Education’s (CDE) web-based data reporting tool and the CDE Downloadable Data Files Web page. The California Department of Education (CDE) collects student-level data through the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) for state and federal reporting purposes. Unfortunately, the data files that are publicly available only disaggregate data along one reporting dimension and do not provide cross-tabulated values (e.g., homelessness by race/ethnicity).

For data that are not available through these public resources, the CDE maintains a Data Request process, which the CDE has currently suspended until early 2022 in order for the system to be redesigned and redeveloped. At that time, we will update student data on the interactive map with the latest data available and cross-tabulated similarly to the state and county profiles. If you would like to learn more about race/ethnicity data for an individual district, please refer to the CDE’s DataQuest tool or contact erivera@gseis.ucla.edu for more information. Thank you.
